چکیده

Results: • There were no noticeable effects of the environmental conditions (choice of diluents, temperature or blue light phototherapy) on the physical or chemical compatibility of the drug mixtures. • The precipitation observed in some of the incompatible combinations has been established to be due to either a change in pH that is incompatible with the formulation or in the case of ketamine the presence of the preservative benzethonium chloride. • Of the 31 possible drug combinations 12 combinations are incompatible with a further 3 combinations incompatible at extreme formulation pH or is of clinical concern in the way that it is mixed and therefore should be avoided. • The incompatible formulations all contain furosemide. Table 1. Compatibility result of the 31 drug combinations. NO DRUG COMBINATION (UNDER ALL ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS) RESULT

Comparison of the Effects of Intralipid 10% and 20% on Peripheral Catheter Ablation in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Background: Energy deficit is a common and serious problem in pediatric intensive care units. Parenteral nutrition, either alone or in combination with enteral nutrition, can improve nutrient delivery in critically ill patients by preventing or correcting the energy deficit and improving the outcomes. Intralipid 10% and 20% are lipid emulsions, widely used in parenteral nutrition. Despite sever...

Standard concentration infusions in paediatric intensive care: the clinical approach.

The use of standard concentrations of intravenous infusions has been advocated by international organisations to increase intravenous medication safety in paediatric and neonatal critical care. However, there is no guidance on how to identify and implement these infusions leading to great interunit variability. OBJECTIVE To identify the most appropriate clinical concentrations required by our...

Cardiovascular effects of intravenous midazolam after open heart surgery.

Midazolam is the sedating agent of choice in many paediatric intensive care units, and is usually administered as a continuous intravenous infusion with or without a preceding bolus dose. Ten haemodynamically stable children, ventilated in the early postoperative period after cardiac surgery and receiving intravenous morphine infusions, were given an intravenous bolus followed by a continuous i...

Effects of Pantoprazole on Systemic and Gastric Pro- and Anti-inflammatory Cytokines in Critically Ill Patients

Stress-related mucosal damage (SRMD) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients due to the gastrointestinal blood loss. Prophylaxis of SRMD with proton pump inhibitors or histamine-2 blockers has gained widespread use in intensive care units. Both demonstrated to be effective in reducing clinically significant bleedings, while PPIs has shown to exert some anti ...

The current evidence base for the feasibility of 48-hour continuous subcutaneous infusions (CSCIs): A systematically-structured review

BACKGROUND A continuous subcutaneous infusion (CSCI) is an effective method of multiple drug administration commonly encountered in end of life care when the oral route is compromised. At present, current practice is to limit syringe driver infusion time to a maximum of 24 hours as dictated by available chemical stability data. However, the ability to deliver prescribed medication by a CSCI ove...
